Oversized Blazer Styling Tips
The oversized blazer has gained popularity over the past few years…. Specifically, the boyfriend blazer with its oversized fit, longer length, and more relaxed, casual feel. This year, we’re seeing the boyfriend blazer step aside for oversized blazers with more tailored silhouettes, sophisticated details, and strategically figure-flattering elements. I’m sharing a gorgeous oversized blazer and two ways to wear it below. Plus, some simple, but game-changing style tips that will take your blazer outfits to the next level…no matter what style blazer you own!

The Perfect Oversized Blazer
First, I want to talk about how much I love this gorgeous blazer. Olive green is one of my favorite colors because it really brings out my eyes. It’s also such a neutral, versatile color. This blazer is a heavier wool fabric so it’s very warm. If you live in a warmer climate, this is really the only coat you need. If you live in a colder climate, it’ll keep you warm and make a beautiful new addition to your coat collection!
The strong structured shoulders help create the look of a smaller waist which I love as a rectangle body shape. The length is interesting because it’s much longer than the blazers I’ve seen in the last few years…but I really love it! As a petite woman (I’m 5’4”), it’s hard to find oversized blazers that don’t swallow me up, but this one is perfect because it’s tailored and creates shape.

Karen Millen Sizing
I’m wearing a size 6 in the blazer and wanted to share some more details about Karen Millen’s sizing. The pieces I’ve tried have sizing that’s more aligned with high-end designer sizing. So, if you’re traditionally a size 4, I would size up one size to a 6.
By the way, Karen Millen has super easy returns…all you have to do is print out the label and take it to your local FedEx, UPS, or USPS (see label for which one).

Tip #1) Play with Volume Proportion
In this look, I styled the oversized blazer with a pair of black tapered trousers that have an on-trend, modern slit at the ankle. I love the way these trousers frame a gorgeous pair of shoes. But they’re also a great pair of pants to have in your closet for date night OR the office…yes, they’re that versatile. The slimming fit and structured fabric are lovely and make you feel secure.
The pants were a very strategic styling choice. With a more oversized blazer, you want to take volume proportion into consideration. Because the jacket is oversized, I paired it with tapered, more slim-fit trousers to offset the volume on top. This is especially helpful if you’re petite, but a great style guideline regardless of your height.

Tip #2) Pop Your Collar
The next tip is one of the easiest ways to elevate your blazer outfits…pop your collar! Popping the collar on your blazer adds an extra style element that can really take your look up a notch. You can see in the photos above that it changes the feel of the outfit. It looks a little edgier. Use this tip if you’re headed straight from the office to date night to give yourself some extra sass and modernity.

Tip #3) Push Up Your Sleeves
This next tip is also a super easy one. If you want to give your look a more casual feel, consider pushing up your sleeves. It’s the little styling tweaks that really make a big difference and this one is a no-brainer! If you’ve tried this tip and had trouble keeping your sleeves up, make sure you try my hair tie hack. See how it’s done here.
Cashmere Sweater
As you can see, I also went with tapered trousers to contrast the volume on top and stick to Tip #1. Underneath the blazer, I’m wearing a chunky cashmere turtleneck sweater. It has a pretty gold chain detail on the shoulder that’s really sexy and cool. I also love that the turtleneck itself isn’t too fitted to the neck, which is something I’ve started avoiding as I’ve gotten older.

Style Tip: Flip the turtleneck fabric IN instead of OUT to create a more sleek, streamlined look.
White Booties
I also wanted to mention these gorgeous white booties. They’re SO good I’m going to buy them in black too. Since they’re a sock bootie, you can easily wear them with tapered jeans or trousers, but you can also style them with dresses and skirts. They’re really elegant, easy to walk in, have a cool criss-cross detail, and you can still wear a sock with them (a must for colder climates!).

Tip #4) Drape Over Your Shoulders
This tip is better for those of you who live in warmer climates and don’t need the added warmth of the wool blazer. But draping your blazer over your shoulders is an unexpected, sophisticated, and elegant way to style it.
